The Ordinary Skincare Review

The Ordinary is a skincare brand that has taken over magazines and social media for their “Clinical formulations with integrity” at an affordable price point. Many of my friends have told me that I have to try it out, and they all were adamant about how most of the products were less than $10 and sold at Sephora. However, I was at Club Monaco shopping before a trip and saw the Ordinary on display. I decided I would finally buy it and try it out. The Squalene Cleaner claimed to be a gentle balm to oil cleanser, and it smelled bizarre, to the point that it gave me a headache and lingered for a while. After looking around, I saw that a few other people didn’t like the smell, and I read one post that said it smelled like expired meat, which I won’t comment on. Squalene, however, is fat, so it makes sense that it smells like old meat. I did like how it cleansed my skin as an oil because I prefer oil cleansers as they do not over-foam your skin and leave a light feeling of hydration. The Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 claimed to be a hydrating formula with ultra-pure, vegan Hyaluronic Acid. I have to say that I am a massive fan of Hyaluronic Acid and it’s in my brand’s moisturizer and serum as it promotes Healthier, More Supple Skin as well as it’s wound-healing effects. I did like their Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum, but I have to say that I would prefer it in an airtight container. Hyaluronic Acid is water-soluble, which means you should keep it closed to avoid water vapor in the air to prevent it from losing its potency. The Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA moisturizer claims to provide non-greasy, immediate topical hydration; however, the consistency felt thick when applying it on. I also don’t think it would be the best for oil/combo skin as my skin felt like it couldn’t breathe. It leaves my face with a greasy film over it, which looks very strange and feels sticky. I was shocked as I wanted to like this product for the amino acids, but it was not for my skin type and felt strange. Overall I was surprised that the products had as many scientific benefits as they do as well as the price point is very affordable. I think that most people could benefit from some of their products if used in a timely fashion. However, I won’t be using most of the products again as they didn’t work for me as well I prefer to use products in airtight packaging, especially with the potency being vital to the products I use. Thanks so much for reading xoxo -Chaz
