Burts Bees Skincare Review
Burts Bees is a brand that has been around since 1984, with a vision that “what you put on your body should be made from the best nature has to offer.” I find it interesting, because I did some research, and some of their products contain synthetic ingredients which makes me question the validity of “the best nature has to offer.” I’ve used a couple of their products before, such as the Peach and Willow Bark Scrub, and I didn’t realize that it had an ingredient banned by the European Union: sodium borate. So I decided that I had to buy their Sensitive line to see if it contained ingredients that wouldn’t irritate your skin. The first thing I purchased was the Sensitive Facial Cleanser with Cotton Extract; it’s supposed to gently remove dirt without causing redness, and it contains aloe and rice extract. It smells bland, exactly like baby powder. It feels tingly to the touch and it has a weird application sensation. However, unlike its advertising, it does cause irritation due to the fact it contains 3 types of alcohol. The next product I used was the Natural Acne Solutions Scrub, which claims to exfoliate without over-drying. I like that it has salicylic acid, however, it felt like it was drying my skin and it caused some redness from the alcohol once again. The next product I tried was their Facial Oil with Rosehip Seed Extract. It claims to be jammed packed with antioxidants, which help rejuvenate and rebalance dull skin. It smells like primrose, and it feels very nice while applying. I feel hydrated and it doesn’t feel sticky, however my only problem with it is the packaging. It’s comes in an eye drop system, which can cause oxidation which lessens the potency of the antioxidants. The Eye Cream is the same as the the Facial Cleanser; it also contains cotton extract. It claims to not cause redness or irritation, however after I applied it, my under eye felt itchy and heavy, and then I realized it contained 2 types of alcohol, which I wouldn’t recommend applying to that area of your face because its so sensitive. The Daily Moisturizing Cream is also from the Sensitive line, it has no scent and it applied easily with the pump. However it sunk directly into my skin yet I still felt like I needed hydration. I later realized that it also contained 2 types of alcohol which is probably why it evaporated off of my face and didn’t add any hydration. Overall, I don’t think i’d recommend this line because as much as they market their products, they still contain questionable ingredients that don’t add to the potency, they only take away.
