Why I switched from Milk to Oat Malk
Anyone who knows me knows my Starbucks drink order: either a Trenta Mango Dragon Lemonade or the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso. But those weren't always my go-to drinks. As a kid, I would order an iced caramel macchiato. However, I eventually had to stop due to a heart condition and the inability to drink caffeine, which gave me bad stomachaches as well as woke me up in the middle of the night in cold sweats.
The primary reason I switched to oat milk was persistent acne and digestive issues, leading me to suspect I might be lactose intolerant, although I've never been medically diagnosed since I've never been tested. Additionally, I find oat milk more enjoyable and frothier compared to almond milk.
Oat milk also has several health benefits over dairy milk. It contains beta-glucans, which help regulate blood sugar levels. It's rich in fiber, which can help lower cholesterol levels and improve heart health. Plus, oat milk is often fortified with essential nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and riboflavin to match or exceed the nutritional profile of dairy milk.
The main reason I wrote this blog post was to make others aware of their consumption patterns, and to highlight something I noticed while changing over to Malk Organics. Malk Organics is sold in Whole Foods and on Amazon, it is shelf stable—via a process of high pressure processing, a gentle, natural way to preserve food and drink products, without the use of additives or heat, but instead using cold high pressure—and other milks contain more than the 3 ingredients Malk Organics contains. Below in the slideshow I’ve highlighted the ingredient list of Malk Organics vs. a mainstream competitor that uses preservatives, such as xanthan gum. I bought both the Vanilla and Original, the only difference being vanilla extract in the ingredients. I keep the Vanilla flavored version for special drinks, such as a homemade bubble tea, and the packaging even teaches you how to make your own ice cream. Overall I find it very important to treat your body like a temple; you wouldn’t put synthetic gas in a brand new Ferrari, so give your body what it deserves—a clean healthy regimen so it can perform at its best.
